This book is historically important for the electroacoustic music scene in Italy. It is at the same time a book and the catalogue of the homonym exhibition organized in 1986 by the Venice Biennale (the expo aimed to show and reconstruct various electroacoustic experiences since 1900 in the world).

One part of the book contains a selection of essays (some already published that have been translated into Italian), thought by the editor to be fundamental as reference points on the historical, technological and sociological electroacoustic music scene.

The second part shows various profiles of centres and electroacoustic instruments, a bibliography and a discography.

Volume storicamente importante per il panorama della musica elettroacustica in Italia. Si tratta di un corposo libro-catalogo uscito in occasione della mostra omonima organizzata dalla Biennale di Venezia del 1986 (mostra che presentava e ricostruiva le esperienze elettroacustiche dal 1900 in poi).

Una parte del volume presenta una raccolta di articoli (alcuni già pubblicati in riviste o volumi specializzati e tradotti in italiano), ritenuti fondamentali dai curatori per fornire un panorama storico, tecnico e sociologico esauriente della musica elettroacustica dal 1900 al 1986. La seconda metà del volume consiste in schede dedicate ai centri, agli strumenti, alla bibliografia e alla discografia della musica elettroacustica.
