Computer Music

This term covers a broad range of music created through the use of one or more computers. The computer may work as (assistant) composer. In this case one speaks of algorithmic composition. Alternatively the computer can be used as an instrument; that is, the computer is the place where the sounds are to be generated. Here one speaks of sound synthesis. The computer is sometimes brought on stage to create and manipulate sounds made during performance. Finally, the computer may analyse incoming performance information and "reply" in what is known as interactive composition. The former two possibilities sometimes necessitate a good deal of compilation time; the latter two belong to the category of real-time. More recently, music making has witnessed the extensive use of networked computers.

Informatique musicale (Computer Music)

Ce terme désigne un important éventail de musiques créées à l'aide d'un ou plusieurs ordinateurs. L'ordinateur peut servir d'assistant au compositeur, dans ce cas, on parle de composition algorithmique. Mais, il peut aussi être utilisé comme un instrument, il est alors la source permettant de générer les sons, on parle alors de synthèse sonore. De plus, il est parfois installé sur scène afin de créer et manipuler les sons en direct pendant le concert. Dans une œuvre interactive, il peut aussi analyser les informations venant d'une interprétation et y “répondre” en fonction de ce qu'il a appris. Ces deux dernières configurations nécessitent parfois beaucoup de puissance de calcul, elles appartiennent à la catégorie des œuvres en temps-réel. Enfin, et plus récemment, des réseaux d'ordinateurs ont aussi été utilisés pour la création musicale.

Musica informatica (Computer Music)

Importante campo che indica le musiche create tramite uno o più computer. Il computer può essere inteso come un assistenza alla composizione e in questo caso si parla di composizione assistita.Oppure può essere usato come strumento, e diventa allora la fonte per generare suoni (si parla allora di sintesi sonora). A volte fa parte della scena per creare e manipolare i suoni direttamente durante il concerto. Nelle opere interattive, esso può analizzare le informazioni che vengono da un'interpretazione e “rispondere” a seconda delle istruzioni precedentemente indicate. Negli ultimi due casi, il computer necessita di una grande potenza di calcolo, e le opere che ne risultano sono dette opere in tempo reale (real-time). Più recentemente, vengono utilizzati computer interconnessi in rete.

Música por computadora / Música por ordenador

Este término cubre un amplio rango de música creada mediante el uso de una o más computadoras. La computadora puede trabajar como (asistente del) compositor. En este caso uno habla de composición algorítmica. Además, la computadora puede ser utilizada como un instrumento; es decir, la computadora puede ser el lugar donde los sonidos se generan. Hablamos entonces de síntesis de sonidos. La computadora es a veces llevada al escenario para crear y manipular sonidos producidos durante una interpretación musical, en un concierto. Finalmente, la computadora puede analizar la información que proviene de una ejecución y "responder", lo que se conoce comúnmente como composición interactiva. Las primeras dos posibilidades pueden necesitar de una importante cantidad de tiempo de compilación; mientras que las dos últimas pertenecen a la categoría: tiempo real. En los últimos tiempos, el uso de computadoras en red ha comenzado a utilizarse ampliamente para la realización musical.
