In this article, the author seeks to emphasise the inspiration that music can bring to science and technology, and to demonstrate the complementary relationship that can exist between art and science. He discusses problems encountered when using computers to calculate musical sounds, and describes some of his experiences with computer composition, sound synthesis, sound processing and auditory perception.
