Providing some historical, contextual and technological background, this short article questions the aesthetic pluralism suggested by the term 'electroacoustic' and strongly states the author's case for aesthetic 'focus' and a return to the use of the term 'musique concrète'. This, in Chion's view, would affirm the many pregnant potentials of practice based on recorded (fixed) sound and aid the wider (social) appreciation of such music.
