In considering timbre to be the set of material/organisational interactions that lead to the elaboration of a form, the author discusses the potential for formalising constraints through a process of unifying control over these interactions. His ambition is the development of a grammar of formal processes, a morpho-genesis that offers control over the trajectories and paths along which musical material can be elaborated, diverted and transformed.
