In this paper, the authors review the development, and evaluate the uses of the MidiGrid instrument - a mouse-controlled, computer-based musical instrument for the live performance of MIDI-based musical material, that was invented in1987. Following this evaluation the authors highlight the work in progress (2003) concerning its transformation from MidiGrid into MediaGrid.
