In this paper, the author discusses hybrid interaction between sounds, a transformational process whereby identity defining features of one sound (such as dynamic profile or spectral envelope) can be fused with or imposed on to those of another. Drawing on Denis Smalley's spectromorphology and Trevor Wishart's imposed and intrinsic morphology, the author examines the potential of this transformation process in generating distinctive morphological identities.
