In this brief paper, the author reflects on the concept of “integral art”, an art that on the one hand strives for intellectual and emotional profoundness and pleasure, whilst on the other hand regards itself as a social contribution. The author frames his concept through the context of acoustic ecology arguing that the function of such art should include the promotion of the responsible treatment of the sounding environment, and offer an artistic and creative counterpoint to a reality dominated by careless, destruction and profit thinking.
