In this article, the author presents a succinct history of electroacoustic music in the Czech and Slovak Republics, beginning with the initial experiments undertaken by composers in the 1950, the development of the practice over the following decade, leading to the First Seminar of Electronic Music in the former Czechoslovakia in 1964. He details the four government sanctioned electroacoustic music studios, the restrictions on their output, and the clandestine operations of un-sanctioned venues. He also discusses more recent developments following the fall of the Republic's totalitarian dictatorship in 1989.
