This article, presented as an obituary for composer Luciano Berio offers extracts from several essays written by Berio. Through these extracts the authors present biographical information concerning his musical background, formative influences and what electroacoustic music meant for Berio at various points throughout his creative lifetime. They also seek to illuminate his views on electroacoustic music in general as they evolved along with and in response to music technology throughout the half-century in which he composed and wrote about electroacoustic music.
