In this book, the author offers an overview of the then new (1984) spectral analysis techniques and technology. He uses spectral photography to reveal the sonic structure and sonic details of various musical works. Based on this new found ability to see the spectral characteristics of sound he then proposes a framework for the analysis of tone colour (timbre).
