In this interview John Chowning presents us with his musical experience. From his early experiences to recent pieces he details the important steps of his career: musical education, research into the computer-controlled movement of sound in space, FM in his piece Turenas (1972), formal organisation in Stria (1978), synthesis of the singing voice in Phoné (1980), the influence of computer programming languages in his compositional ideas and the performance of computer music. To conclude, he speaks about his next planned composition.
