In this article, the author discusses methods for using performable, real-time computer music systems in composing and performing music. He offers a brief history of his endeavours in the area of interactive composition. He then defines interactive composing and describes the organisational structures of the interactive composing systems in two of his works, Solo and Rhythms. He also comments on the future significance of interactive composing.
