In this article, the author offers his thoughts as to why many professional contemporary music composers and performers regard the serious exploitation of electronic sound as something outside of their field of practice. He suggests that there are many unexplored areas where electronics can be used in live performance situations incorporating traditional scored music. He also describes some of the basic capabilities of synthesisers (ca. 1984).
