In this chapter, the author presents a brief historical outline of the relationship between music and electrical/digital technology. He then discusses the invention of new musical instruments that were a result of developments in electrical/digital technology - a small selection of which he describes in some detail, including some of his own inventions. He also offers his definitions of the terms ‘electroacoustic', electromechanical' and ‘electronic'.
