In this article, the author explores several concerns regarding the social context of machine-made (assisted) music. He notes how machines are affecting the substance of music, and that as we allow technology to intervene in the process of music making and communication, we radically alter the social and conceptual basis of this intercourse. He suggests that it is important that composers in this emerging domain explore the ways in which they relate to one another, rather than concentrating solely on the next new technological advance.
