In this chapter, the author offers a brief overview of the (primarily technical) compositional approaches used in realising Speech Songs (1972-73), a group of four short songs in which synthetic voices were used to articulate text. These works are some of the first computer music works to be based directly on a computer analysis of recorded sound.
