In this chapter, the authors present a detailed structural, poietic (production-based) analysis of Karlheinz Stockhausen's work, Gesang der Jünglinge (1955/56), a work that represented a turning point in musical thought of that time, precipitating a reassessment of serial thought as it had been formulated in the first half of the decade.
