In this paper, the authors address the question; how does the computer composer's choice of technological tools and methods reflect his/her - declared or tacit - aesthetic goals? Using the terms bricoleur and engineer as metaphors for different aesthetic and technological approaches to computer music, they integrate this metaphoric division into their analysis of several works through which they discuss the possibility of regarding computer music as a single cultural field.
