This article explores the perception of time in digital music. An introduction presents physical time concepts and their measurement. The article's first part explores the specificity of time manipulation with digital technologies. The second part exposes the principal philosophic theories. The third part concerns visual representations of time in various computer programs (Pro-Tools, Alchemie, Cubase, Infinity, Metasynth, Metatrack, Xx, Sonic Worx Artist, Audiosculpt, Studio Vision, and Finale). The last part contains a report of an experiment concerning time perception.
