In this article, the author investigates the potential role of the computer in primary and secondary music education in the UK, particularly its role as a facilitator of composition. He reflects on the criteria for selecting and developing relevant software packages, teaching materials and methodologies that will enhance children's musical creativity, rather than for use as instructional tools.
