In this brief article, the author notes that we are living in an age in which art is becoming more accessible than ever. However, with less financial support coming from state sources, contemporary art music now finds itself subject to the whims of the ‘art marketplace'. In order to establish a strong identity in this marketplace, and to make their work known to a larger public, the author suggests that art music composers should focus on outreach and the promotion of their art form.
