In this very brief article, the author discusses the field of acoustic ecology, in particular its bifurcation into two areas represented by composers and sound artists on one side and anthropologists and historians on the other. Noting that the pluralist discourse of acoustic ecology displays considerable heterogeneity he asks if it might be possible to establish an integrated theory and practice of ‘soundtexts'?
