Japanese Noise Music

The development of noise music with Japan seems to warrant a special status category of Japanese Noise Music or Japanoise. According to Paul Hegarty, ‘noising' here refers to influences from free jazz, progressive rock, traditional Japanese musics and punk, and that the genre “represents a diverse take on the interaction and furthering of Western contemporary musics”. Indeed the diversity of influences in evidence leads Hegarty to conclude that it is, in fact, a non-genre.
