In this article, the author discuss changes in performance, listening, and the concept of gesture that were brought about through the advent of electronic sound production and recording systems. In particular, he focuses on the physical, mechanical relationship between performer and instrument and the extent to which the lack of bodily dependent gestures in electronic music leads to certain perceptual ambiguities in terms of the listening experience.
