This chapter describes the intention/reception project and includes details of tests made using compositions of Smalley as well as Schreyer/Calon. Inexperienced (and experienced) listeners of electroacoustic music are tested to investigate issues relating to the accessibility of this music and to what extent the composers’ intentions are being received by the listeners and, consequently, how important they find being offered intention information as part of the listening experience.
