The author explains how she has evolved her compositional techniques, especially the control of musical structure. In the first part, she briefly analyses two early pieces realised before the change: Puzzle Wood (1995) and Earth Haze (1995). In the second part, she details the compositional structures of two recent works: Viva La Selva and The Utility of Space. Through these two groups of works, she explains how she has used different methods to approach the same subject.
