In this article, the author discusses the role of acoustic ecology with respect to the use of new technological devices for recording, composing or performing. After summarizing the term 'acoustic ecology' she addresses what she sees as a widespread misinterpretation of acoustic ecology as an anti-technology movement. She goes on to investigate if artistic and ecological values can co-exist, inspiring each other without trivializing each other and, at the same time, creating something that is alluring and captures the mind and senses. She focuses on the architecture of the media and its impact on defining the relationship between sender and receiver, coining different concepts of listening and initiating.
