In this article, the author makes several observations concerning the state of the arts (ca. 1989) in support of his notion that they are in a bad way. He argues that there needs to be a radical shift in approaches to education where the arts are concerned, and that music technology can play an important role in this shift. He suggests that through the use of new music technology in education and its wider availability in general, persons who have no particular musical skills are able to create sound-based art and so realise that they have an innate sense of creativity within them, one that does not require complex knowledge or advanced skills.
