In this chapter, the author addresses the then current relationship between music and technology (1992). Noting that the mushrooming of the science of information technology had brought about a qualitative change in our ability to handle and manipulate musical data of various kinds, he discusses both the artistic promise offered by such technological developments as well as the pitfalls.
