In this article, the author addresses certain issues concerning musical improvisation with computers, and interactive music systems. He draws on his own experiences as a performer, software designer, composer and educator, with particular reference to several interactive music systems of his own design, including the FMOL (F@ust music on-line) system and its current (2001) manifestation.@en
