In this article, the author reflects on his experiences of teaching on an undergraduate course in music that included a music technology element. In particular, he explores certain issues raised by the pedagogic use of commercial sound production software, examples used are, Performer (sequencer), Sound Designer II (editor), Turbosynth (synthesis) and SampleCell Editor (sampling).
